Yeah, there's a little latin tune he does on the practice video towards the end of the video which grabs me every time, he actually makes it groove, while being impressed from a technical perspective, the way he lets the music breath without forcing the issue is just phenomenal and he seems to be comfortable. Just in case im talking about the section where he's playing a "yellowish" Yamaha 4 piece with his signature Maple Snare, after that it goes to the instructional part, "A few months ago I was cutting sum cables in the studio" YADA YADA

and I dig the cymbals he's playing, they kinda look like UFIP(italian), but have the Zildjian logo, anyone care to explain, excuse my retardness ofcourse im not much of a geargeek [img]wink.gif[/img]

I'm pretty darn sure that the main ride is a K Custom Dry Ride, but I could be wrong. I'm not what the other two are, though they seem to be light rides of some sort. (or crash rides) And yes, that tune flows well! I dig the little upbeat jazzy fusion tune that is just over a minute long (where it does that funny little freeze frame of his hands, then moves to his face.) I watch that thing all the time. The opening song is great too.

Warner is gonna release the "Back to the Basics" on DVD, that was discussed awhile ago....

Actually, it's the "A Natural Evolution" series, and it's a three part series. The first is on technique (which I don't have), the second is the one I have, and, if I'm not mistaken, the third is "How to Develop Your Sound". I actually very much like the practice tape. Though Dave can seem a bit indifferent at times, I think he speaks in a very down to earth way about things, and the exercises are very practical in this video. The video never lets you get bored in my opinion since there's a tune squeezed in every few minutes to enjoy. One of the exercises in the video is the Colaiuta/Steve Holmes-Lesson lick alternating singles between the hands and the feet. (RH, LF, LH, RF) I personally wish he would have acknowledged that being Vinnie's lick, but that's ok. He goes into a section about playing time "as dictated by the natural motion of your body", and it's a decent section. I'm sure the technique video covers it in MUCH more detailed fashion. The exercises for that section aren't really necessary since I believe that you'd pretty much know what to do with the whole set once you've gotten the Moeller technique down well enough, but it's still good that it was addressed. Towards the beginning of the video, he does a condensed version of "Cultural Concurrence" from his Synergy cd, and I really enjoy listening to it. Again, Weckl no longer really does mindblowing stuff, but his musicality, choice of notes, and smooth flow make him a constant treat to watch. I would personally recommend this vid.

Concerning the cymbals used for that segment of the video... I asked Dave about those cymbals specifically and he said that they were "prototypes" from Zildjian that they sent him to check out when they were expanding the "constantinople" jazz line. Of course, those exact models that he is playing are unavailable... and, of course, he wouldn't let me have them, either. [img]wink.gif[/img]

Cheers for that info Plaid. Sounds like Dave has made 3 very good dvd's then. I recently bought the Steve Smith and Steve Jordan dvd's. They are both great. Jordan grooves his arse for 60 minutes, it's a proper lesson in feel and pocket. The Smith one is fantastic aswell, the guy is so schooled and has so much knowledge. He's crammed loads into this 2 disc set.
